The tuner is not picking anything up

BogeyGuitar needs the microphone. If you declined the prompt, open Settings → BogeyGuitar → Microphone and switch it on. If the app is running but the reading looks dead, check nothing else is using the microphone, and raise the noise gate under the gear if the room is loud.

It keeps jumping to the wrong string

Tap a string in the row along the bottom to lock the tuner to it. Tap it again to go back to detecting automatically.

I play in Drop D, or with a capo

Tap the gear. Eight tunings are built in — standard, Drop D, half step down, D standard, Drop C, DADGAD, open G and open D — and the capo control shifts every target so the readout names the pitch that actually sounds. Whichever tuning you are in is always shown at the top of the main screen.

Which readout should I use?

The needle is finest near the centre. The bar is easier to read from across a room. The spectrum shows the whole signal, which is what you want when a neighbouring string is ringing along. The strobe under all three settles the last cent — when it stops drifting, you are there.

Is my audio recorded or uploaded?

No. It is analysed on the device and never stored or sent anywhere; the app has no network access at all. See the privacy policy.

How do I record a shot?

Stand at the ball and tap the club you are about to hit. That is the whole gesture — the club board is a shutter button, not a picker, so you press it before the swing, where the ball is lying. The tile you tapped picks up a tick and the header names the club, so you can tell a mark landed. The red tile is the app's suggestion for the distance, and tapping a different club does not move it.

Putts work the same way: press + Putt standing over the putt, before you hit it. Undo sits beside the clubs on the board, so a mis-tap costs one tap to take back.

I do not want to tap anything — I just want the score

Choose how the round is kept on the course sheet, before you tee off. All three give you the live yardage and the hole drawn from above; what changes is how much you are asked to press.

• Bogey Golf Pro Heavy — a shot marked with every club you hit, and strokes gained afterwards.
• Bogey Golf Pro Lite — one number a hole, and nothing to remember to press.
• Just GPS — yardages and the map, no scoring at all. Add your card at the end if you want one.

Whichever you pick is remembered for next time.

There is no yardage, and no dot showing where I am

Two things do that. Check Settings → Bogey Golf Pro → Location is set to While Using or Always — iOS only ever asks once, so if you declined on the first run, that is where it is changed. The other is deliberate: the live yardage only appears when you are actually at the course, because a distance measured from your sofa is a real number and a useless one. The scorecard, the stroke indexes and the drawn hole all keep working from anywhere.

The hole is drawn the wrong way round, or the green is in the wrong place

Course maps come from OpenStreetMap and a course already saved on your phone keeps whatever it was imported with. Open the course, then Refresh from the map, which re-reads it without touching a green you dropped yourself or a par you corrected. If the green is genuinely somewhere else, walk onto the middle of it and use Mark the middle here.

Every distance in the app is to the middle of the green, not to the flag as it is cut today.

I invited somebody and they never got it

An invitation is a row waiting in their copy of the app, and there are no codes or links to pass around any more. That means the person has to be reachable: they either use the app already, or you have an email address on their contact card. A contact with neither says so on the row rather than being skipped quietly.

How do I watch a friend's round?

Open Contacts and tap the Golfing pill on their row — it appears while they are actually out on a course. There is no request to send and nobody is asked to approve anything; being friends is what makes it possible, and any round can be kept private from the round menu while you play it.

Moving to a new phone

Settings → Backup writes a single file holding your rounds, courses, clubs and handicap record. Restore it on the new phone before you play. Sign in with the same email address and the shared rounds you belong to come back on their own.

Reporting something, or blocking somebody

Anything in the app can be reported from where you see it, and any golfer can be blocked from their contact card. Reports are read and acted on promptly. If you would rather write to a person, use the address at the top of this page — say what you saw and where. Blocks are undone under Settings → Blocked golfers. The full rule is in the terms of use.

Deleting my account

Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Delete account. It takes your profile, friends, pending invitations and sessions with it, and frees your email address to sign up again.

The rounds on your phone stay — they are yours, not the account's, and they go only when you delete the app. Rounds other people played with you stay on their cards too, with your seat marked as withdrawn.

The Apple Watch app

The watch works out its own yardage from its own GPS, because your wrist is at the ball and your phone is in the bag. Raise your arm, read the yards to the middle, press the club you are about to hit. Marks made out of range of the phone are kept and arrive when the two meet again.

How do I get everybody to answer?

Send them the link, or read out the six-character code. Anyone with either can open the plan and mark their days. There is nothing to sign into and nothing to install for the people who only want to look.

Somebody says they answered and I cannot see it

Pull down on the plan to fetch it again. Everybody's answers live on the plan rather than on your phone, so a refresh is all it takes.

I marked days and nothing happened

Marking days keeps them on your phone until you press Save. The button says how many days you have marked.

Why is somebody counted as waiting rather than as a no?

Because they have not said. A window that reads 6 of 12 is a completely different weekend depending on whether the other six said no or have not looked at their phone, and only one of those is a text message away from changing. Days nobody has marked are left as unanswered on purpose.

Why does a day that suits me not count for a weekend?

A run of days is only your yes if every day of it is. A Friday to Sunday trip needs all three. That is what lets the app find the weekend nobody thought to propose, rather than only scoring the ones somebody listed.

Using it in Messages

Open a conversation, tap the + beside the text field and choose What Days Work?. You can create a plan and answer one without leaving the chat. The message lands in the input field for you to send; the app never sends anything on your behalf.

Does it read my calendar?

No. It never reads your calendar and never assumes you are busy. Once a date is picked, Add to calendar opens Apple Calendar or Google Calendar with the date filled in, and you press save.

Will it tell me when somebody replies?

No, and it says so on the Notifications screen. Reminders are set by your own phone, about your own plans. There is no account and no server that knows your device, so nothing can knock when somebody else answers.

Archiving a plan

Long-press a plan on the Plans tab and choose Archive, or swipe the row. Archived plans move into a section at the bottom that stays shut until you open it, and they stop sending you reminders. It is your list only: everybody else still has the plan.

Getting rid of a plan for everybody

Whoever created it can call it off from the plan's own menu. That deletes the plan and every answer on it, for everyone, immediately.

Reporting a plan

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. Use Report this plan on the plan's menu, or email the code to the address at the top of this page. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours and anything objectionable is removed. See the terms of use.

Moving to a new phone, and being forgotten

There is no account, so nothing follows you automatically: on a new phone, open the links again and answer again. Settings has Forget everything on this phone, which clears your name, your id and every plan on this phone's list. It cannot reach other people's copies — for that, ask whoever created the plan to call it off, or email us the code.
