Bogey Golf Pro keeps your golf on your phone. An account, a round you share with other people, and a photograph you submit are the only things that ever leave it — and each one is described below.
This policy covers Bogey Golf Pro only. Other apps in the BogeyApps family have their own policies, because they do different things. Bogey Golf Pro is the app formerly listed as BogeyGolf; the name changed, the app did not.
What stays on your phone
Your rounds, every shot you mark, your scorecards, your statistics, your handicap record, your clubs and the courses you have saved are stored on the device and nowhere else. A round you play by yourself transmits nothing at all.
GPS drives the yardages entirely on the device. A scorecard you photograph to scan is read on the device and is not uploaded. A backup file you export is written wherever you choose to put it — it goes to no server of ours.
What leaves your phone, and when
Your account
Signing in creates an account with an email address and a six-digit code sent to it. There is no password. We store the address in the clear because it is a credential — the code has to be delivered to it — along with your name, and your GHIN number and handicap index if you choose to enter them. Your name is what other golfers see on a shared scorecard.
You can be found by other golfers by name, or by an exact email address, GHIN or phone number. You can switch that off in the app under Settings → Account, and nobody can then find you by searching.
Finding people you already know
When you look for friends, the app sends a SHA-256 hash of an email address or of the last ten digits of a phone number — never the address or the number itself. The server compares the hashes and answers only whether there is a match. A phone number you give us is stored as a hash and in no other form; it cannot be read back out.
A round you share with other people
When you share a round or set up an event, the scorecard for it — names, scores, handicaps, tee times and the format — is stored on our server so that everybody playing can read and write the same card. Anyone you invite, and any friend you have allowed to follow along, can see it.
While a shared round is live, your position is relayed to the other phones in that round so the group can see one another on the hole. That relay holds the positions in memory only, writes nothing to disk, and forgets everything when the last player disconnects. A solo round sends no position anywhere. A shared scorecard is deleted after 60 days without anyone opening it.
Photographs you submit
If you submit a photograph for the home screen, the image, the caption, the credit you type and the licence you pick are sent to us and reviewed before anyone else sees them. The crop is re-encoded before it is sent, which strips the original file's metadata, including where it was taken. Photographs you have not submitted are never read.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Apple issues a device token for this installation of the app, and we store it so an invitation can reach you. It identifies the install, not you, and it goes nowhere but Apple's push service.
Course search, ratings and weather
Looking up a course sends a course name or a coordinate to open-data services and to our own course index. These requests carry no account, no key and no identifier, so there is nothing in them to join to a person.
What we never do
No advertising. No analytics. No third-party SDKs. No data brokers. Nothing is sold, rented or shared with anyone for marketing, and nothing here is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Other people on your card
You can type in playing partners who do not use the app, so that you can keep their score. What you type — a name, and an email address if you invite them — is stored with the round it belongs to and used for nothing else. Bogey Golf Pro does not read your iOS address book; there is no Contacts permission because nothing in the app asks for one.
Deleting your account
Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Delete account. Your sessions, your devices, your friendships, your pending invitations and your memberships of other people's rounds are deleted, and your name, GHIN and handicap index are erased. Your email address is released immediately, so you can sign up again with it.
Two things deliberately survive it. The rounds on your phone, because they are yours rather than the account's — they go when you delete the app. And other people's cards: on a shared round you played, your seat becomes a withdrawn entrant rather than a hole in somebody else's scorecard.
Children
Bogey Golf Pro is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to the address below and it will be removed.
Your rights
You can see and change what the account holds from inside the app, switch off being findable, and delete the account outright. For anything else — a copy of what is held, or a correction — write to the address below.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Bogey Golf Pro collects something this page does not describe, this page is updated before that version ships, and the change is described in the app's release notes.
